shaner–i definitely received a good number of death threats at piney. i’ve found that potential employers are rarely impressed by job descriptions such as "held a screaming teenage boy to the ground by pressing his face against the floor while a bunch of other people held his limbs," or "played a shit-ton of foosball," or even "learned how to play dominoes from a 12 year old black kid from pine bluff." but i’m actually pretty certain that the whole "charting religiously" thing worked out in my favor in my med school applications, so i wouldn’t be afraid to roll with that one.
just as an aside, I also did a tour at decision point (when it was in springdale, before it moved) and i can say with certainty that dealing with adolescent sex offenders is far more frightening than working with adult meth heads. my life was only threatened once at d.p., and though i was certain that the guy meant it and definitely had the capacity to pull it off, that pales in comparison to the amount of death threats i got a piney… and a lot of those kids definitely could have done it. that being said, working at piney was about 1000x more rewarding that d.p., because at least some of those kids had potential to turn themselves around.
