Breakfast
Vegetarian
this is ridiculously easy and so much better than anything you could buy. sorry, mrs. butterworth.
Syrup:
heat a cup of water in a sauce pan. pour in 2 cups of sugar; stir until it dissolves. quickly add 1/4 tsp of maple extract…that’s it! serve warm.
Pancakes:
sift together
1 1/4 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
combine
1 beaten egg
1 c milk (for thinner cakes, add a little more)
2 tbsp oil
add to dry ingredients, stir until just moistened
bake on a hot griddle. turn when bubbles rapidly form and pop around the edges.

doesn’t homemade maple syrup technically come from maple sap which comes from maple trees?
what you’ve created here is perhaps homemade “pancake syrup” as it is sold at ye olde supermarket. not to be confused with the original product which is made through a traditional process by foresters in vermont to this very day.
just sayin. maple trees deserve their props.

props to maple trees! this is a good fallback plan, in case you don’t happen to be a forester.
